Vous savez???: The Statue of Liberty (French: Statue de la Liberté), officially known as Liberty Enlightening the World (French: La liberté éclairant le monde), was presented to the United States by "the people of France" in 1886. Standing on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, it welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans traveling by ship. Since the 1940s, it has been claimed that the seven spikes on the crown stand for the 7 SEAS and 7 CONTINENTS.
