Les Misérables (play /l ˈmɪzərɑːb/ or /l ˌmɪzəˈrɑːb/French pronunciation: [le mizeˈʁablə]), colloquially known as Les Mis or Les Miz /l ˈmɪz/ is a musical based on the novel of the same name by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg, and the lyrics were written by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Set in early 19th-century France, the plot follows the stories of the escaped prisoner Jean Valjean, the policeman Javert who doggedly seeks him, two young women in love, prisoners, workers, student revolutionaries and rascals, as they struggle for love, money, redemption and revolution.
Les Misérables closed on Broadway on May 18, 2003 after over 3000 performances.
In what year did Les Misérables originally hit the Broadway stage? (US Production.)
